Cana­di­ans, Gi­ants close out reg­u­lar sea­son

The Moose Jaw Cana­di­ans will be head­ing into the Ram­bler Park Fast­ball League play­offs on a high af­ter clos­ing out their reg­u­lar sea­son with an 8-0 win over Regina Sil­ver Screen.

The Moose Jaw Gi­ants will be look­ing for bet­ter things af­ter a pair of mercy rule losses – 14-1 to Earl Grey and 11-1 to the Bu­lyea Rustlers -- to fin­ish off their campaign.

As a re­sult, the Cana­di­ans fin­ish in first place with a 15-1-2 record, with their only loss com­ing two weeks ago, while the Gi­ants fin­ished in fifth with an 8-9-1 record.

Cana­di­ans 8, Sil­ver Screen 0

Af­ter two quick back-and-forth in­nings, the Canadi- ans blew open a 1-0 game with four runs in the third and three more in the fifth to in­voke the mercy rule. Dane Roy and Ri­ley Al­masi each hit two-run home runs in the con­test, while Bryce Cros­bie reached base three times and scored three runs.

Blake Dixon was the win­ning pitcher, giv­ing up only three hits and strik­ing out six.

Early Grey 14, Gi­ants 1

The first 12 bat­ters for Earl Grey all reached base, rack­ing up 10 runs on 10 hits in the process. They ex­tended their lead to 11-1 in the third be­fore cap­ping things with a three run fourth.

Dar­ryl Cal­laghan had the Gi­ants lone run, a solo home run in the sec­ond. Justin Siev­ert sur­ren­dered only four hits in earn­ing the win.

Bu­lyea 11, Gi­ants 1

The Rustlers also got off to a quick start in the ear­lier con­test, scor­ing four runs on five hits and then us­ing home runs from Josh Jordan and Tucker Slough to put up an­other five in the sec­ond.

Tyler Kif­fer­ling scored the Gi­ants’ only run, hit­ting a two-out dou­ble in the third and scor­ing on a sin­gle by Lee Behrns.

Colin McLeod gave up five hits to take the win. League ac­tion con­tin­ues next week with the first round of the play­offs, with the sched­ule un­avail­able as of press time.
