Hunger in Moose Jaw be­gins Good Food Box (GFB) pro­gram

Up un­til June 2019, the com­mu­nity will be able to ac­cess qual­ity fresh fruits and veg­eta­bles at af­ford­able prices through Hunger in Moose Jaw’s Good Food Box (GFB) pro­gram.

The Good Food Box pro­gram which be­gan in Septem­ber, pro­vides top qual­ity fresh fruits and veg­eta­bles from Septem­ber to June. It is avail­able to the gen­eral pub­lic on the sec­ond and fourth Tues­day of each month.

Hunger in Moose Jaw says the Good Food Box is a bulk buy­ing pro­gram. A one-time de­posit of $8.00 is re­quired at sign-up in per­son at Hunger in Moose Jaw, lo­cated at 269 Stada­cona St. W.

The prices are set at af­ford­able rates for the com­mu­nity. The prices are:

• Large GFB ($20.00) – A fam­ily size box packed with high qual­ity, fresh pro­duce 3 to 5 peo­ple.

• Small GFB ($15.00) – A medium sized box of qual­ity fresh pro­duce for 1-2 peo­ple.

• Fruit Bag ($10.00) – A small bag of 3- 4 dif­fer­ent types of fresh fruit.

Hunger in Moose Jaw vol­un­teers pack the Good Food Boxes. De­liv­ery is avail­able for site orders of 5 orders or more. Pay­ment is by cash only. Ex­tra pro­duce may also be avail­able for pur­chase the day of the GFB.

Sharla Sept, Ex­ec­u­tive Di­rec­tor at Hunger in Moose Jaw says they are invit­ing ev­ery­one to par­tic­i­pate in the pro­gram. “This pro­gram is open to ev­ery­one and we in­vite ev­ery­one to come down and grab some of these items that are very af­ford­able. We have dif­fer­ent sizes and va­ri­eties that per­sons can choose from based on their per­sonal or fam­ily needs,” she said.

“When per­sons make their $8 de­posit, this is re­fund­able if they de­cide not to con­tinue with the pro­gram. You also pay the full amount for the box the week be­fore the ac­tual pack­ing day. Af­ter boxes are paid for, per­sons can pick up their boxes at Zion United Church,” Sept added. “The goal of this pro­gram is just to pro­vide af­ford­able fruits and veg­eta­bles to our com­mu­nity mem­bers. It is not a fundrais­ing pro­gram.
