The ar­rival of the an­nual Christ­mas Ideals Christ­mas mag­a­zine was some­thing to which my fam­ily looked for­ward in the months be­fore Christ­mas. These pub­li­ca­tions came with a glossy cover and a few colour pho­tos in­side de­pict­ing a win­ter Christ­mas scene or the tasty look­ing tray of Christ­mas cook­ies.

This week’s recipes come from the 1979 Ideals book, Christ­mas Gifts From the Kitchen. ••• Drop by tea­spoon­fuls abut 2 inches apart on an un­greased cookie sheet. Stamp each cookie with the bot­tom of a glass that has been dipped in sugar. Bake un­til cook­ies are light brown around the edges. Makes about 4 dozen cook­ies.

Spread dough in pans and bake at 350 de­grees F for 25-30 min­utes. Cool. Cut into bars.

••• for one hour or un­til tooth­pick comes out clean. Cool in pans on rack for 10 min­utes then re­move from pans and cool thor­oughly on rack. Wrap tightly in foil. Al­low flavours to mel­low overnight be­fore serv­ing.
