MORE INFO
Yellowknife sees more than 19 hours of daylight a day during portions of June and July.
Even though the town’s origin is in gold mining, its name comes from the knives once used by the Dene people, who fashioned them out of locally sourced copper.
The northern lights are visible about 240 days a year there, usually from late August through mid-april.
With a population of just 20,000, Yellowknife offers a thriving cultural community, with festivals, a city art collection and walking tours of its heritage sites.
