Capturing all the water- soaked fun of outdoor enthusiasts and thrill-seeker alike

Making a splash while enjoying summertime aquatic activities!

RIDING THE WAVE “I took this photo from a bridge, which is part of the Millennium Trail that follows the Yukon River from one end of Whitehorse to the other,” writes Donna Clayson of Whitehorse. “This annual kayaking event at the Whitehorse Dam draws both competitors and residents here every summer.”

STANDING TALL “Every summer, we spend a week in beautiful British Columbia visiting friends,” writes Rhonda

Prince of Blackfalds, Alta. “They have a cabin on Mabel Lake, and on this trip, the weather was gorgeous every day. We spent the week surfing, paddleboarding and just hanging out on the lake. One evening, I went for a paddle and my husband, Tyler, captured this picture of me. The lake was so calm and peaceful and the colours were amazing. Definitely the highlight of our trip.”

RISKY BUSINESS “I snapped this pic of my son Chris at Mountain Portage Rapids during the annual Slave River Paddlefest,” says Patti-kay Hamilton of Fort Smith, N.W.T. “Every summer, on the long weekend in August, whitewater paddlers from around the world, along with our homegrown paddlers, gather to celebrate this event. Chris has loved paddling since he was two years old. Like the other water babies from our town, he is like a seal in the water.”

NEW HORIZONS “I took this photo of my friend, Alissa Kinsman, canoeing at Lake Louise,” shares Kim Kemmler of Red Deer, Alta. “I was born and raised in British Columbia but moved to Alberta a few years ago. Some people question why I would leave such a beautiful province, so I love sharing photographs like this one to showcase how beautiful Alberta is, too!”

RACE TO THE FINISH! Kelsy Gibos of Edson, Alta., writes, “Nothing beats a friendly paddle-off! This photo captures many of the important people in my life, including two of my best friends. We have been close for so long, despite the distance between us. On this occasion, we all met up in Bella Coola, B.C. It was an adventure a long time in the making. We spent an awesome day canoeing in this beautiful harbour amid the snowy peaks and blue water.” Pictured at left are Bill van Egteren and Jess Macdonald with their children, Liam and Owen (yellow jacket). On the right is Kelsy’s husband Travis Johnson and her friend, Cliona Curran.
