More of Our Canada

Editor’s Letter

As long-time readers I believe have come to appreciate, Canada’s war veterans have a place in each and every issue of Our Canada and More of Our Canada throughout the year. Typically presented on page 7, our Veteran Profile page highlights veterans brought to our attention by our partner, the non-profit organization Veterans Voices of Canada and you, our readers. Simply put, the recurring Veteran Profile page is our way of expressing the belief that our war veterans deserve the thanks, praise and attention of their fellow Canadians not only on Remembrance Day, but at every available opportunity.

As you see on the page next door, this issue features an expanded Remembrance tribute, comprising profiles sent in by our readers across the country. The tribute runs seven pages in length and, even so, represents only a fraction of the many profiles we continue to receive. Our thanks go out to everyone who took the time to send in a profile of the veteran dearest to their heart and we wholeheartedly encourage others to do likewise, as we intend to continue publishing similar tributes well into the future.

I view the steady flow of incoming profiles as anecdotal evidence that, even as the number of our surviving veterans dwindles with each passing year, their families, friends, members of their communities, and dedicated non-profit groups have picked up the torch to ensure that Canadian veterans will indeed be remembered and honoured for generations to come.
