More of Our Canada

Cover Girl

-

What a beautiful surprise when I received my copy of the May 2021 magazine in the mailbox containing my Critters story and cover shot. It brought so much joy to me and my family. It’s a great magazine: I can’t wait to get my husband to make me all the recipes—he is a way better cook than me! My entire big Italian family want copies, so

I’ll encourage them to subscribe to the magazine! Denise Pagilaro, Manotick, Ont.

Good Read

Thank you for printing my story, “Eternally Yours” (Februarymarch 2021). My friends and family were delighted to read it, I praise your magazine as often as possible; it is great to read the interesting stories and poetry. The photos are fabulous as well. Marion Morneault, Barrie, ont.

Bonded for Life

Recently, a neighbour passed along several older copies of Our Canada to me. I loved the homespun stories from across the country. In last year’s May 2020 issue, Deanna Giles-vail wrote a story called “Brotherly Love” that inspired me to share my story. Unlike in Deanna’s story, it was not music that united my four brothers, but their sense of humour and never-ending hilarious tales of their antics. I was away for several years, but their stories always resulted in side-splitting laughter from the rest of us. Sadly, we lost our dad when my youngest brother was only 19, which only served to strengthen their bond. One of my brothers passed away last September at the age of 78, but love, like their bond, goes on forever. Barbara Catto, Pickering, ont.

Pass the Bread!

I wanted to let you know that my story “Crusty Thieves” published in the May 2021 issue of More of Our Canada was a delight to share. Doreen Chalmers, Fairview, Alta.

Farming Today and Yesterday

The March 2021 issue of More of Our Canada had two articles referencing farming. “Seems Like Yesterday,” where the author photographed barns and

fields as they drove to Peterborough, and then Stirling and “Frankfort.” I think he meant my beautiful hometown of Frankford, just south of Stirling. Also the “Till Next Time” photo on the back cover of the April-may 2021 issue of Our Canada is a vista in northwestern Ontario with a farm and canola field in yellow splendour! I would like to put out a call to our farmers who read Our Canada, to submit articles sharing with us their life of farming and how it has changed over the years and during COVID. For instance, years ago in Our Canada, there was a series of articles by 4H young farmers who were writing essays for a contest, if I remember correctly. I miss hearing from those who work so diligently to keep us fed! Kathrine Moran, Toronto

EDITOR’S NOTE: Yes, it is Frankford not Frankfort—good eye, thanks Kathrine!
