THE GIVE IT BACK AWARD
Every once in a while you hear about someone whose bank account was artificially inflated by a bank error. The bank eventually notices and takes it back and no one raises a fuss. More rare is when a company overpays its employees by thousands of dollars as a Loblaw Cos. Ltd. store in Surrey, B.C., did earlier this year. After realizing its mistake, the company threatened legal action if the employees didn’t pay it back in 20 days. The employees, however, refused, noting they were being unfairly forced to pay for Loblaw’s “human miscalculation.” After a lot of public criticism, Loblaw apologized and said it would not seek repayment from those employees.
