The Park ‘n Fine Award

-

Condo development and increased bike lanes are making it that much tougher to find parking in many major downtown cores. But your troubles are nothing like those of Canada Post, which has paid almost $7.5 million in parking fines over the past decade, according to documents obtained by The Canadian Press through freedom of information requests. The data show the Crown corporation in 2018 paid $914,831 in parking fines as its drivers struggled to find a place to stop while picking up and delivering the mail. Canada Post has about 13,000 vehicles that delivered almost eight billion pieces of mail last year, though the bulk of the citations are in and around Toronto. “There is no preferential treatment for Canada Post,” Toronto Police sergeant Brett Moore told The National Post. Except, perhaps, its monopoly on delivering mail.
