GOVERNMENT OF CANADA BIO: Sarah Paquet has been a dedicated public servant for over 20 years. In 2018, she was named the first Executive Vice-president at Shared Services Canada where she worked to modernize its IT infrastruc­ture. In November 2020, Sarah was appointed as the Director and CEO of FINTRAC - Canada’s financial intelligen­ce unit. Sarah is the Deputy Minister Champion for the University of Ottawa and a passionate advocate for women.

MOST IMPORTANT CAREER LESSON: Leave your ego at the door. The best way to tackle challenges is simple: one team, one plan, one success.

GREATEST ACCOMPLISH­MENT: My decision to publicly champion Women in Science, Technology, Engineerin­g and Mathematic­s (WIS) where I was the only woman at the senior management table.

BIO: Krista Scaldwell has more than two decades of public affairs and communicat­ions experience in Canada, Latin America, Asia Pacific and the U.S. She has spent more than 20 years in the non-profit sector in management and at the board level, including Trustee of the 4-H Foundation Board of Directors and chairing an annual fundraisin­g event for the Abilities Centre. She is also past chair of the Trent University Alumni Community of Women.

ON MOTIVATION: That each day brings new challenges and I get to work with an amazing team of colleagues to make a difference for our business and the people we service.

GREATEST ACCOMPLISH­MENT: The multiple volunteer board roles I have had over the years while being a mom and having a busy career.

BIO: After holding executive roles in multiple sectors, Effie Simanikas joined IAMGOLD in 2011. Effie has also played a key role in evaluating several growth options that led to IAMGOLD’S current transforma­tional growth strategy. She serves on several Cote Gold joint venture committees, is a board member of Euro Ressources, and is actively involved in several organizati­ons committed to women’s career advancemen­t, including the WXN’S Diversity Council.

MOST IMPORTANT CAREER LESSON: Create a great team. Your people are your success so spend time building the right team and ensure you take care of them.

ON WHAT MAKES A LEADER: When people naturally seek your input without being obliged. That’s how you know you’re adding value.
