BIO: Dr. Anne-marie Mes-masson pioneered model systems based on human biological material and has contribute­d to biobanking norms including ethics. Her leadership has insured the success of several large oncology research programs and she is a dedicated mentor. Her research results in ovarian cancer are currently being translated into new clinical tools to diagnose, manage and treat this deadly disease. She is the recipient of numerous science awards and is a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada.

MOST IMPORTANT CAREER LESSON: At the beginning the most important traits were perseveran­ce and a belief in my own ideas, but over time it was taking advantage of my position to help others reach their goals.

ON WHAT MAKES A LEADER: While thinking strategica­lly and seeing the big picture are important, working hard and delivering on the vision (with a team) are what qualifies a real leader.
