BIO: Dr. Valerie Taylor is a clinician scientist researching new treatments for those suffering from mental illness through the lens of precision medicine. Originally hailing from Newfoundland and Labrador, she was recruited from the University of Toronto to lead the Psychiatry Department at the University of Calgary two years ago, with a mandate focused on innovation, access and efficiency. Dr. Taylor is also CEO of Taylored Biotherapeutics, a Biotech start-up she developed based on her research.

ON MOTIVATION: My patients, those in my clinical care and my research program, inspire me with their strength and motivate me to try harder to find better solutions to the illnesses they have. And always, my partner and my two little boys.
