2020 ELECTRA MECCANICA SOLO

-

It looks weird, isn’t very fast and won’t take you — and only you — far, but the Solo is a Canadian designed all-electric three-wheeler that went into production on Aug. 26 in Chongqing, China. A Canadian car is enough to celebrate, given the spotty history of such vehicles, even if it is technically a motorcycle. The Solo is fully enclosed (think: bubble) and has foot pedals, a steering wheel, seat belt and rollover bar just like a car. It also has heated seats, bluetooth stereo, rear-view camera and it’s vegan-friendly to go along with its environmentally friendly 17.3 kwh NCA battery, which is just strong enough to get you to 100 km/hr in 10 seconds, and tops out at almost 130 km/hr so it can go on the highway. Well, for 160 kilometres or so before it needs recharging. The company says Solo has 99% fewer parts than a combustion engine, so there are significantly fewer opportunities for things to go wrong.
