UNEASY IS THE HEAD THAT WEARS A CROWN

Ten of the 48 Crown corporatio­ns that made the FP500 lost money in their last fiscal year, with Export Developmen­t Canada (No. 180) showing a $1.43-billion loss on revenue of $2.29 billion, a big swing from the $874-million profit it showed pre-pandemic in 2019. Among the others are perennial money losers such as the Canadian Broadcasti­ng Corp. ($59.2 million), Canada Post Corp. ($22 million) and Metrolinx ($18.4 million). The most profitable Crown was Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (No. 18), which had a paper profit of $24.75 billion on revenue of $26 billion.
