LETTERS OF THE DAY

-

Re: Canadians Can’t Be Trusted With Tax Breaks, letter to the editor, Oct. 12. I completely agree with Paul Jones that Canadians can’t be trusted with tax breaks. In fact I think we get too many tax breaks already and enjoy a completely unnecessary disposable income.

Only yesterday, I bought a bag of chips, which will most likely raise my cholesterol level. I wish the government had stepped in and taken that dollar away from me, and provided me with something healthy like an apple.

And, oh horror, last month, I went to see a movie, which was terrible. If only the government had intervened and taxed that $12 away so that I would not have wasted three hours of my life on a bad movie.

Why stop there? I think Prime Minister Paul Martin’s initiative on national day care should apply to adults as well. We need to be taxed at 100% so that we could be told where to live, when to wake up, what to eat and when to go to bed.

In short, we need to be saved from ourselves.

Oh, Great Liberal Government, save us dumb Canadians before it’s too late. This letter illustrates why the Liberals are still at 43% in the polls.
