Twenty years after it first held the Canadian women’s curling championship tournament, Lethbridge, Alta., will stage the 2007 Scott Tournament of Hearts, the Canadian Curling Association officially announced yesterday. The news had been a poorly kept secret since January when the Canadian Press reported the deal was all but complete pending a financial contribution from the city of Lethbridge. The event will be staged at the city’s Enmax Centre, which has a capacity of about 6,000. When the event was held in Lethbridge in 1987, Victoria skip Pat Saunders was the winner and went on to win the world championship that year. The event will also mark the 30th anniversary of the Canadian women’s title — then known as the Macdonald Lassies Championship — won by Lethbridge skip Myrna McQuarrie.
