FEED & NEEDS

Shopping and sipping for charitable causes

- AMORYN ENGEL

It was a bevy of society stunners who descended on the Café at Holt Renfrew for the launch of the Tory

Burch- designed FEED tote bags, made exclusively for Holt Renfrew. Alexandra Weston hosted the event and welcomed model, do-gooder and daughter in-law of Ralph, Lauren

Bush Lauren, the co-founder of FEED. They are two women who certainly radiate beauty and elegance. Approximately 100 guests attended the swish event and were the first to pick up their bags and meet Lauren, who spoke eloquently about her wonderful foundation.

“To do what you love — in our case here at Holt Renfrew that includes shopping and fashion — and have it make a difference is not only incredibly uplifting but deeply important to those whose lives you are making better,” enthused Weston, the store’s director of brand strategy. “To shop and change the world — it’s a no brainer!”

Holt Renfrew will donate $100,000 to both the FEED Foundation and the Tory Burch Foundation through the

sales of the tote bags. This will provide 500,000 school meals to children and $50,000 in mentorship programming as a result. Now, I’m spying these colourful totes everywhere I turn. If you don’t have yours, pick one up for $50 while doing good. Changing the world, one bag at a time!

The Gardiner Museum was the perfect backdrop for an intimate gathering of those who happen to enjoy a gorgeous glass of vino while doing good. Grapes for Humanity unveiled California Uncorked, a wine-themed event hosted by wine expert Tony Aspler, and cochairs Liz Gallery and Cathy Martin.

“We were so thrilled to have sold out at our inaugural California Uncorked Event, our guests had a fun-filled evening and 100% of the funds raised went to Place of Rescue Foundation in Phnom Penh, Cambodia which will build orphanages for children,” said Gallery.

The event featured wines from Mumm Napa, Chandon, Deloach, Louis Martini, Stag’s Leap, Cuvaison, Raymond Family, and Sonoma-cutrer and food by the one and only Jamie Kennedy as well as Oyster Boy. That is a great combination for any party! With the help of sponsors KPMG and Vlaad, the money raised will go to support Place of Rescue to help build a dormitory and orphanage in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
