Toronto, while Grapes money for Guatemala
House. With an on-site spa, delicious Juicery café/restaurant and signature fitness programming, equinox 199 Bay Street provides guests with everything they need to recover from the party of the year.
The crowd was colourful at this year’s Australia uncorked, held once again at the stunning Gardiner Museum. Patrons sipped on fabulous wines, all overseen by the wonderful oenophile Tony Aspler. It was when Grapes for Humanity ambassadors Liz Gallery and Cathy Martin attended the official opening of the first elementary school in the Guatemalan village of Las Palmeras that they knew that this fundraiser was one they would champion for years to come. The project was a partnership with Access education and they were amazed to witness the results.
Access education is attempting to end the cycle of hopelessness by providing education for children in Guatemala who are unable to attend school. Over the past year, with Grapes for Humanity’s continued support and the proceeds of the Australia uncorked May 2013 fundraiser, a middle school will be completed.
“After talking to the children and their parents, and seeing with our own eyes what a life changer this school was going to be in this community, we knew we had to finish the project — and that was to raise the funds to build the high school,” said Gallery. “We did it!”
Sponsors included KPMG, BridePoint Financials, Molycorp, & TimberCreek Asset Management. All of the proceeds went to Access education — Guatemala Children’s Fund.
