Spider’s surprising Tv debut.

Global B.C.’s meteorologist is no longer just a local celebrity, thanks to the kind of worldwide fame that can only come with a viral video.

Kristi G ordon became frightened on Friday after a spider crawled on the lens of the camera during the noon broadcast. It appeared, greatly magnified, on top of her head, thanks to the magic of greenscreen technology.

It sounded like this: “It will be a gradual drying trend for them, still today though significant rainfall on the way. And for our area: So let’s — oh my gosh!”

After leaping out of the way — and brushing off her hair and clothes — Ms. Gordon tried to collect herself and finish the segment. It was the sweeping “current weather” transition that finally forced her to run off screen. “Kristi, it’s not in the room. It’s OK,” one of her colleagues chimed in from off screen.

In an interview Monday, Ms. Gordon said she’s ‘‘not that freaked out’’ by spiders, but acknowledged someone else usually needs to deal with them.

“I’ve been doing weather for a long time, for many years, so that screen behind me, I’m part of it. It doesn’t feel fake to me. I feel like I’m in it and when I saw it on my head [on a monitor], literally on my head, I felt like it was in my hair. And I just totally got creeped out and I totally lost it. It’s kind of embarrassing,” she said.

“I’m pretty lucky for something to go viral; at least I didn’t swear or something,’’ she said.
