Commonly known as one of the funniest people in the country, Brent Butt is the creative genius behind Corner Gas, the international Emmy Award nominated sitcom which went on to become Canada’s #1 comedy. Born in Tisdale, Saskatchewan, Butt has endless memories as a kid enjoying the prairie way of life.As an advocate for Saskatchewan, Butt made this welcoming community the location of choice for Corner Gas and the special place he frequently visits every year. His love for Western Canada continues to live on and remains a top recommendation for people to work and live.

Question: What are some of your fondest childhood memories growing up in the prairies?

Answer: It was a great place to be a kid. I played pretty much every sport there was growing up. When I think about my childhood and the prairies a lot revolves around the outdoors; playing hockey and baseball.

Q: What is one of the biggest misconceptions about the Prairies?

A: I think a lot of people really look at the prairies as exclusively a rural agricultural environment. They look at the prairies and think that if they’re not a farmer then there’s no point being there. Virtually anything that you’re interested in doing, there’s an industry and a market in the prairies. There’s much more to it than farming.

Q: How does Western Canada compare to other parts of the country?

A: The quality of life is really good. People spend upwards of two hours in their cars en route to work in Toronto. You can set that time aside in the prairies and come home to your family ten minutes after you leave work and add those two hours to your downtime every week. That’s what you get in the prairies. The community is also very vibrant. More people are moving back to the prairies because it’s amazing and a great place to raise kids.

Q: What is your favorite local restaurant?

A: There’s a wealth of options. The prairies produce so much food that over the last ten years we’ve come to this realization that we’ve got the best of the world in our backyards and should take advantage of it.There’s a restaurant in Saskatoon called Calories and it’s fantastic. It’s world-class. The chef uses food from the backyard; grains and berries. It is unbelievable.
