‘As long as there’s booty to make money out of, it will be bought and sold’

It’s not just Sinead O’Connor taking a public stance against blantantly sexualized pop music. british singer Annie Lennox has posted an open letter on her Facebook page condemning “the recent spate of overtly sexualized performances and videos,” and decrying a music industry that she says is selling “a glorified and monetized form of self-harm.” “I believe in freedom of speech and expression, but the market forces don’t give a toss about the notion of boundaries,” Lennox, pictured, writes in the letter, posted online on Tuesday. “As long as there’s booty to make money out of, it will be bought and sold.” Lennox is not explicit about whose videos and performances she is criticizing, writing that “you know the ones I’m talking about.” but the controversy surrounding Miley cyrus’s VMAs performance would suggest that the former disney star could be on Lennox’s mind.
