Re: Kimmel, Ford Just Don’t See Eye To Eye About TV Show, March 6.

Toronto Mayor Rob Ford sets a very bad example for children and is a very big disgrace to Toronto. Mr. Ford is now the laughing stock of the world. He has definitely put Toronto on the map, in a bad way, that is. In my opinion, I hope that someone else gets elected in October, but for now, all we can do is live with him.

Hailey Clinton, Grade 7 student, Windfields Junior High School, Toronto.

On Monday, Jimmy Kimmel did a very good job of insulting Rob Ford. This is a bad thing, because it hurt Mr. Ford’s feelings. Even many of Mr. Kimmel’s fans say that he went too far. I think that Mr. Kimmel was rude and treated Mr. Ford poorly. I think Mr. Ford should not go on any more talk shows, in order to avoid getting bullied like that again.

Jared Lai Thom, Grade 7 student, Windfields Junior High School, Toronto.

Rob Ford got bullied and mocked on Monday. Honestly, I think the mayor deserved it because he has been the worst thing that has ever happened to Toronto. He drinks too much and he might be a crack addict. Jimmy Kimmel showed many pictures of Mr. Ford drinking, dancing with girls and doing many other disturbing things. Mr. Ford has made Toronto into a joke because of his mistakes. As a citizen, I have suffered the consequences of his bad leadership and lack of experience. I have not been able to go to many camps this summer because of the budget cuts.

Marco Copto, Grade 7 student, Windfields Junior High School, Toronto.

I noticed that Rob Ford seems to think that he is a celebrity. I can’t prove him wrong, but I think that he should pull himself together: Stop fooling around on shows and start solving Toronto’s problems.

Re: Panthers Take On Luongo’s 12-Year Deal, March 5. Roberto Luongo is not in his prime and in my opinion he deserved to be traded. He hasn’t played very well in the regular season, so he shouldn’t be surprised. In my opinion, it was smart for Vancouver to trade him because I assume his trade value went up after Team Canada won gold in men’s hockey, so it was the perfect opportunity to trade him.

Re: It’s Time To Stop Playing With The John Travolta Name Generator Now, March 6.

Who’s heard about Ellen DeGeneres ordering pizza at the Oscars? Probably all of you by now. But do you know that the poor pizza-delivery guy didn’t even know that he was going to be on TV? He also didn’t expect to meet famous stars like Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts and Bradley Cooper.

All he was told was that he would be delivering backstage to the Oscars. This guy I’m talking about is named Edgar Martirosyan, and on Monday, he told Ms. DeGeneres that he “was shocked” when he saw himself on stage at the Oscars with millions of people watching him.

But the most shocking part to me is the amount of money he got as a tip. For him, it was enough that he got to meet Julia Roberts (his favourite actress), and he was expecting the usual $3 to $5 tip. Instead, he got a $1,000 tip from the star-studded audience. This money was collected in Pharrell William’s hat and was given to Mr. Martirosyan before he left. In my opinion, a $1,000 tip is not that big considering how much money these famous people have. I know he was probably expecting a $5 tip and that $1,000 was a shock to him, but to me, these celebrities could have given him more.

Alexandra Stanciu, Grade 7 student, Windfields Junior High School, Toronto.

A pizza-delivery guy found himself in front of millions of people handing out pizza to the woman of his dreams at the Oscars. What an unexpected surprise. And that not all. He got a $1,000 tip for delivering three pizzas What a lucky guy! I would never give that much money for pizza.

Re: Tories Mull Leniency On Marijuana, March 6. I am a 12-year-old boy in Grade 7, who lives in Toronto. I have been reading about Justin Trudeau and his plan to decriminalize marijuana. I think that if this plan is realized, it would be a lot less safe for me to be outside at night. There would be people walking around downtown or hanging out in parks under the influence of marijuana. It would be a risk and a danger to everyone. It might give the impression that smoking marijuana and other drugs is OK and that is the last thing we need.

Re: Doctor ‘Very Worried’ About Otter Whiffen, March 5. I don’t believe they should have kept Whiffen the sea otter away from reporters until he was in good condition. Reporters should have enough respect to give an injured animal it’s space while it is recovering.

I’m not an otter whisperer, but I’m sure that Whiffen does not like reporters shadowing him. Reporters should leave it to the vets to see what’s happening in this case.

Re: Video Of Justin Bieber Taking Urine Test In Jail Released, March 6. On March 3, personal pictures of singer Justin Bieber’s arrest on Jan. 23 were made public. Judge William Altfield said it was the public’s right to see these videos, but I completely disagree. These pictures and videos were private, but Miami police handed them to the media. In my opinion, the only people who should see these pictures are Mr. Bieber, the police and the judge. The Miami police disrespected Mr. Bieber’s privacy and should face consequences.

Re: Ancient ‘Giant’ Virus Revived In Siberia, March 5. Researchers say the giant virus found in Russia poses no threat to people. Would your average everyday person think the same thing?

According to Curtis Suttle, a virologist at the University of British Columbia, “people already inhale thousands of viruses everyday, and swallow billions whenever they swim in the sea.” So if a giant virus poses no threat, could it be inhaled and swallowed with no consequences?
