Nearly 3,000 police officers, department staffers earn $100,000

-

Almost 3,000 Toronto police officers and civilian staff earned $100,000 or more last year, says the so-called “sunshine list” released Friday. The total number is slightly down from 2012, when nearly 3,200 made it on to the list. A report before the Toronto Police Services Board blames contract settlements and arbitration awards for rising salaries. “As at January 1, 2014, the upper end of the salary range for Police Constables increased to $98,783 (including retention pay), as a result of the 2011 to 2014 collective agreement increases,” it states. Councillor Adam Vaughan blamed Mayor Rob Ford. “He handed out the richest contract in the history of policing. He just bent over and gave them what they want,” he said. Chief Bill Blair, left, earned $334,291.41 in 2013, and $3,360.47 in benefits. National Post
