Model medley
An eclectic mix of looks blends together in the creative Fairwater Estate model in Pickering
Ask Bryon Patton, and he’ll say the house at Fairwater Estates already had character in spades. It was up to him to choose an interior design to match — to create a comfortable and inviting style in the 4,298-square-foot Pickering home. “This is really a home for an active, young family with lots of friends and kids, comings and goings, pets, parties and fun,” says the interior designer, who teamed with project designer Sean Swayze, both of Bryon Patton & Associates. To keep up with all of that, they created an eclectic style, with a “mélange of interesting, collected pieces,” Mr. Patton says. “We borrowed from French, vintage, transitional, Canadiana, industrial chic and modern styles.” Homes at the Orchard Ridge Homes project range from 1,906 to 5,041 square feet and from $829,990 to $1,197,990. The sales office is at 525 Park Cres., Pickering and opens Monday to Thursday from 1 to 7 p.m., Friday by appointment, and weekends and holidays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Call 905-831-9539 or visit fairwaterestates.com. This open-concept kitchen is the heart of the home, and the floor — laid with oversized slate-like porcelain tiles — anchors it. The flooring creates visual texture in the kitchen, while the tile transitions to the wood floors used throughout the rest of the house. “The waffle ceiling adds beautiful architectural detailing,” Mr. Patton says of one of the defining features in the great room, which was designed as a “comfortable space” for hanging out with family and friends. “The ceiling adds great character and style to this room,” he adds. Looking to create a “gathering place for the home,” Mr. Patton chose these stools for their plush style, which he calls “cozy and inviting.” “I love the diamond tufting and silver stud detailing, which is a current trend and creates an unexpected feeling of luxe,” he adds. A rustic reclaimed barn board tabletop is paired with a base of industrial trolley-style iron wheels to form the coffee table, which sits on a playful geometric-patterned area rug. “It’s fun,” Mr. Patton says of the table. “It’s quite a contrast to the Country French Bergère chair and loveseat.” Dark-stained cabinetry offers a classic touch in the kitchen space, with traditional detailing that’s paired with matte cream accent cabinets for a contemporary complement. Granite countertops and a glossy glass tile backsplash contrast with the dark cabinets. “A terrific contrast of materials,” is how the designer describes this end table, which juxtaposes an organic wood base with a sleek glass top. “It’s a unique conversation piece,” he says, bringing to mind “a fabulous piece of driftwood” you might find on the nearby waterfront.
