CROSS-BORDER ATTACKS
The terrorist group Boko Haram has killed thousands of people inside Nigeria, where it is based, but in recent days has also increased the number of attacks in bordering countries.
Jan. 2
Boko Haram attacks a bus in Waza, Cameroon, killing at least 11 people and injuring six others.
Jan. 13
The Cameroonian army kills 143 Boko Haram fighters after the group attacks a military base in Kolofata, Cameroon. One Cameroonian soldier is killed.
Jan. 18
As many as 80 people are kidnapped in an attack on Mabass, Cameroon, and surrounding villages, according to the Cameroon military.
Feb. 4 and 5
Nearly 100 people are killed and 500 wounded in an attack on Fotokol, Cameroon, according to Cameroonian officials.
Feb. 6
Two towns in Niger, Bosso and Diffa, are attacked in Boko Haram’s first foray into the country.
Feb. 7
At least five people are killed in an attack on Diffa.
Feb. 8
Boko Haram abducts 30 people in Cameroon, including 20 from a bus in Koza. Agence France-Presse reports twelve of the captives are executed.
Feb. 9
Diffa, Niger, home to tens of thousands of refugees who have fled the group, is attacked twice, including a car bomb blast in the afternoon. Earlier in the day, food and livestock are seized in an attack on Kolofata, Cameroon.
