It’s all about Eve

-

Re: The Pair Who Stoop To Conquer, Andrew Coyne, Feb. 10. The Harper government told MP Eve Adams months ago she would not be allowed to run for the Conservatives in the next election. From having a verbal run-in with an Ottawa service station to causing a rift within the Conservatives by trying to switch ridings, she has been a huge distraction.

I am sure Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau is hoping Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s former chief executive, Dimitri Soudas — Ms. Adams’ fiancé who was fired by the PM — is part of this package because of his potential knowledge of the inner workings of the Harper election machinery.

Larry Comeau, Ottawa.

Eve Adams is not suitable to be in the Conservative Party. It has become increasingly evident her only interest is continuing to be an MP and party guidelines are of no interest. Her personal attacks on Prime Minister Stephen Harper appear to be an attempt to justify her actions.

Anne Robinson, Toronto.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper has always relished cutting down his Conservative challengers and mortally wounding his political opponents. For him, politics has always been warfare by other means. There is an old saying that is worth recalling: “Live by the sword, die by the sword.”

Foreign minister John Baird metaphorically jammed a dagger in Mr. Harper’s back by quitting politics before the looming election. Now, Eve Adams has jammed in another dagger by crossing to the Liberals.

Mr. Harper’s self-indulgent daydream of another triumphant victory must be supplanted by the nightmarish image of Julius Caesar surrounded by dagger-wielding assassins. I wonder which former friend he sees in his visualization of the future.

Lloyd Atkins, Vernon, B.C.

Lazy prophet pundits proclaim MP Eve Adams’ defection to the Liberals as another of the weekly signs of PM Stephen Harper’s collapse.

However, the optics of a traitorous political Barbie joining political Ken is the last thing the Liberals need. For certain, we will see her in all the photo ops as arm candy for Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau ... just not standing too close.

Iain G. Foulds, Spruce Grove, Alta.

Even if Eve Adams walked through a car wash I still wouldn’t believe she has cleaned up her act.

Eve Adams’ switch to the Liberal Party provides one more reason for voters to be reminded of the sad state of Canadian politics. Integrity seems to be a forgotten word.

Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau’s words of welcome to this discredited individual must leave voters gobsmacked. Perhaps she can act as public relations consultant for them (see her throwing a tantrum at an Ottawa Esso station in 2013). As a renowned boxer, Mr. Trudeau just provided another black-eye moment for Canadian politics.
