‘Political correctness won’t help’

-

Re: Humans Are Worse Than Animals; ‘The Colour Challenged,’ letters to the editor, May 2. I was astounded by two of the letters in Saturday’s Post. Letter-writer Mark R. Cole claims that “animals do not kill one another, except in predation.” If he watched National Geographic or other similar shows, he would know that dozens of species kill each other (as humans do) over turf, mating or protecting their family, and it is both inter and intra specific.

Then, letter-writer Fred Thomson notes his frustration with the term “colour blind,” saying that he prefers the term “colour challenged.” Well, I am short and balding — should I demand to be called “vertically challenged” and “follicly challenged”? As for his vehicle passengers, who, when asked the colours of various traffic lights, act as “insensitive people deign to answer (usually with a sneer),” perhaps he should consider new friends.

Surely we have more important issues to deal with. I, too, am partially colour blind, but political correctness won’t help me in that respect.
