‘Justin Trudeau is promising us the moon’

-

Re: Trudeau’s Simplistic Middle East Policy, editorial, June 25; No Merit To Cabinet Quotas, Andrew Coyne, June 30. Continuing to make up his policies on the fly, and having tried to attract young voters by pledging to legalize marijuana and women by advocating for equal representation in cabinet, Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau is now trying to court environmentalist voters by taxing carbon.

With our resource and manufacturing industries floundering, this latest vote-getting scheme seems the most dangerous, as it could cripple our economy. Also, wherever carbon pricing has been tried, people have abused the system, as taxing an invisible gas is not so easy.

Larry Comeau, Ottawa. Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau’s latest announcement that his cabinet will have gender equity ranks up there with reinstating door-to-door postal service: it’s not only goofy, but given the growing leadership of women at senior political levels throughout North America, it won’t be long before this policy will hold them back.

Jim Sanders, Guelph, Ont. Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau is promising us the moon if elected. How about one more thing: he should pledge that his government will be effective and, if not, individual members will be fired, up to and including himself. Call it the “right of recall.” Entrench it into law. If something goes wrong, we will just fire the person involved. We will no longer have to worry about political games.

We, the Canadian public who pays the bills and has gotten terrible customer service to date, should have the authority to deny pensions and perks to misbehaving politicians. It’s the right of recall — otherwise know as the “fear of God.”
