Pop goes the world
Andy Warhol exhibit brings out the trendsetters
Trendy types came out in droves to check out a pop-up-pop-art inspired soiree at Revolver Gallery on Bloor Street West in Toronto. The Los Angelesbased gallery has come north to present Andy Warhol: Revisited. The gallery will rotate more than 120 historic Warhol pieces throughout the exhibit’s six-month run. Notable works include portraits of Marilyn Monroe, Mao, Mickey Mouse, Queen Elizabeth, the Dollar Sign Canvas, the Campbell’s Soup cans, a rare series of prints of John Gotti commissioned by The New York Times and many more. “I am so happy for this opportunity to share my passion for Andy Warhol and his incredible work through this exhibition
in my hometown of Toronto,” said Ron Rivlin, founder of Revolver Gallery, who was on hand for the big do. “Warhol was a truly powerful artist, his work still resonates with so many people — he made accessible art that speaks directly to our admiration of popular culture, to both the mundane and iconic elements of it.” In keeping with all things Warhol, when guests entered the venue, an entire wall was covered in Campbell’s Soup cans, creating a cool threedimensional photo wall. Plush silver couches allowed pretty young things to tuck in for a chin-wag, but it was the gaggle of Marilyn portrait inspired look-a-like staff that set the tone in colourful costumes. Revelers enjoyed delicious Absolut cocktails, Peroni beer and Fat Bastard wine alongside canapés by Toben Food by Design as well as fresh oysters from Island Oysters. Trinity Jackman and
hockey great Darryl Sittler were among those checking out the iconic pieces on display as well as other notable attendees including actors Rachael Ancheril, Katie Boland, Vanessa Matsui, Naomi Snieckus, and Meghan Heffern; musi
cians The Trews, Justin Peroff and Ian Thornley;
fashion personalities Bernadette Morra, Glen Baxter, Jay Strut and David Dixon. The photo booth that offered a bright pink photo keepsake was also a huge hit. It’s true, everyone got their 15 minutes of fame at this fun fete! Revolver Gallery will be open Tuesdays through Sundays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. until Dec. 31, 2015.
