A garden party with Canadian Friends
The Canadian Friends of the Israel Museum celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the Israel Museum with a garden party, chaired by Janice O’Born of The Printing House. More than 150 guests attended the swank event at the lovely Toronto home of Wayne and Maureen Squibb, which boasts one of the city’s most magnificent gardens. Many members of Toronto’s brightest lights were in attendance including James
Snyder, the director of the Israel Museum in Jerusalem. The Canadian Friends of the Israel Museum is one 16 international Friends’ groups committed to raising awareness and financial support for the Israel Museum, Israel’s largest cultural institution and one of the world’s leading art and archaeological museums.
The group unveiled a limited edition print by internationally renowned artist Olafur Eliasson to mark the museum’s anniversary. As well, a silent auction was conducted for a work by the well-known African artist, El Anatsui.
“The Israel Museum’s 50th Anniversary was celebrated in Jerusalem, in June, with Friends from 18 countries,” said
Wendy Eisen, Canadian Friends national co-chair. “The Canadian Friends were thrilled to mark this milestone event at our special garden party, in the presence of James Snyder, director of the Israel Museum and Maureen Cogan, copresident of the International Friends.”
Those lending support included Earle O’Born, chairman and founder, The Printing House; Elise and Harvey Kalles, Harvey Kalles Real Estate; Honey and Barry Sherman, founder, Apotex; the Menkes Family; Sandra Pierce, RBC; philanthropists Judy Bronfman, Sheldon Inwentash and Lynn Factor; Max and Heather Gotlieb; Wendy and Elliott Eisen; Dr. Larry Goldstein and wife Annette. The Printing House was the presenting sponsor, and as a result, many Israeli children of any race or religion will be able to visit the museum free of charge.
