Manitoba Liberals promise to privatize province’s liquor sales

Manitoba Liberal Leader Rana Bokhari promised Friday to privatize liquor stores if s-he wins next April’s provincial election. Bo khari said she would adopt a model similar to Alberta’s where retail outlets are privately o-wned, but the government controls whole sale distribution and markup. “This is a win for taxpayers. This is a win for consumers, for restaurant owners and a win for private retailers,” she said. “It will allow for more s-election and better pricing.” Bokhari, pic t-ured, admitted the move could lead to low e-r wages for liquor-store employees, cur rently paid above minimal retail wages, but o-ffered them an olive branch — loan guarantees if they wanted to buy a store or a job within the liquor system if they wanted to remain.
