ON THIS DAY
December 29, 1996 Author Dorothy Livesay died at Victoria, B. C. Livesay came from a family of writers- her mother was a journalist, poet and translator, and her father managed the Canadian Press news organization. Best known for her poetry, Livesay won Governor General’s Awards for Day and Night ( 1944) and Poems for People ( 1947). She published prolifically, and her concern for women’s rights and the identity of the woman artist grew over time.
