Senior senators

-

Re: Just Abolish It Already, Tasha Kheiriddin, Jan. 21. The committee being set up to nominate senators should l i st only persons over 69 years of age, as senators are required to retire at 75. If the country decides to abolish the Senate, their severance will be f airly cheap, and since they will have served less than six years, they will have no pension entitlement. Further, this short tenure might be attractive to a new group of sober second-thinkers — very able people from outside the political class who could end their fine careers by serving the public.
