IT’S THE ’80S AGAIN, BUT WAY MORE ELEGANT
The ’ 80s are back in interiors. This year, two designers predict, many kitchen renos will see updated versions of design elements popular in the “great hair decade.” Jane Lockhart and Gail Drury tell Houzz.com they expect: Whites will still dominate, but drier, muted colours rather than saturated bolds will serve for accents. Designated spots for smart devices, more use of smart appliances. ’80s brass this time around will pair with natural materials rather than a “plastic” look. As more wood will be used, metal range hoods will offer a visual break. Streamlined kitchens that will better integrate into open-concept living areas. Less-frilly traditional styles. Texture-on-texture, i.e. three finishes of one stone rather than three different stone types Clean, Nordic design paired with coloured appliances Great cabinet lighting.
