FOR MULTI- GENERATIONAL TRAVELLERS
Big White, B.C.
The destination: Near Kelowna in B.C.’s Okanagan Valley, Big White is about an hour’s drive ( or shuttle ride) from Kelowna International Airport, with direct flights from multiple Canadian cities including Calgary, Edmonton and Toronto. Known as a familyfriendly hill, the resort encompasses 118 trails (18 per cent beginner and 52 per cent intermediate) across 3,052 hectares of terrain and 777 metres (2,550 feet) of vertical drop, plus 15 hectares of night skiing (the largest such area in Western Canada) and 25 km of trails for cross-country skiing or snowshoeing.
The must- dos: With plenty to do beyond ski- ing, Big White is the perfect place to split up for some activities and join up for others. Daycare is available for the five- and- under set, while group ski lessons start at age three; evening programming for kids five and up varies through the week, so you can drop them off before heading to dinner and pick them up to hear all about their time on the climbing wall or in the tube park. Group-appropriate activities include a first-timerfriendly ice climbing wall, an Olympic- size skating rink, and snowshoeing tours; nonskiers can join family members on the mountain by booking a “snow limo,” a private, gravity-driven, sled-like vehicle that has the passenger seated comfortably while their chauffeur whisks them around the slopes.
