A ‘QUIET’ SCHEME IN THE CANARY DISTRICT MODEL SUITE BY LISA VAN DE VEN
“Contemporary yet comfortable” is how Dominique Roberge describes the one-bedroom-plusden model suite at Canary District. The general manager of furniture store BoConcept Toronto incorporated an aesthetic he describes as “simple, with straight lines and cleanliness in the design.” The palette is neutral, featuring white walls and blond floors, while the furniture was chosen to create an open, airy feel. Largely in shades of grey, the tone-on-tone furniture also helps add to “a more quiet space,” he says. “When we stay within the same palette, it opens up the space and everything becomes a bit more unified.” Units at the Dundee Kilmer community range from 430 to 1,380 square feet and start in the $300,000s. The sales office is located at 398 Front St., Toronto, and open Monday to Thursday from noon to 6 p.m., and weekends from noon to 5 p.m. Call 416- 603-7576 or visit canarydistrict.com. A built-in white-lacquer media unit flows into the white wall behind, adding storage without creating visual bulk. “We like that core storage in a smaller space,” says Roberge, who carried the white accents through the living room, in the coffee table and a white leather swivel chair. The white lacquer of the living room’s media unit is repeated in the bedroom, which features a white lacquer bed and matching nightstands. A tufted beige headboard completes the look. “The tufting and the texture of the material bring some warmth to the room,” Roberge adds. A grey ultra- suede sofa features open legs to create a more spacious look. “It makes the piece not as heavy or bulky,” Roberge says. The area rug, meanwhile, introduces a subtle pop of colour, with a turquoise pattern set against a light grey backdrop. “We created a tone- on- tone aesthetic here, with the bed covering in grey and also the area rug in a different shade of grey,” Roberge says. While the tones are similar, the texture creates contrast, from the silky bedspread down to the shag-style area rug.
