‘ STOP WYNNE’ IN 2018 CAMPAIGN TURNS TO CROWDFUNDING

-

A social media fundraising effort started by an Ontario Progressive Conservative Party campaigner is turning to online crowd funding as a new avenue for political fundraising. Stop Wynne, a fundraising project launched on Indiegogo.com, is appealing for small donations to help the party defeat Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne’s Liberals in the 2018 election. The stated goal is to keep Wynne “from mismanaging our hard-earned tax dollars,” says the campaign by Sabrina Fiorellino on the fundraising page. The immediate goal is $2,018, an amount to mark the election date. As of Friday afternoon, the campaign had attracted three donors and raised $75. Fiorellino is a Toronto lawyer seeking to be elected a director on the PC Ontario Fund Board at this weekend’s general meeting in Ottawa. George Hatzis, Fiorellino’s campaign manager, said all funds raised will go to the PC Ontario Fund to be redistributed to provincial ridings to run their local general election campaigns. Each fund board member’s duty includes raising $100,000 annually from the region they represent.
