CLAIMS OF ATTACKS AND AID DELAYS THREATEN CEASEFIRE

-

A partial ceasefire in Syria showed signs of unravelling Friday amid mounting accusations of government assaults and a lack of promised humanitarian aid deliveries to besieged people.

Groups opposed to Syrian President Bashar Assad issued warnings late Thursday, saying government of- fensives threaten to throttle the nearly week- old truce backed by world powers.

But the apparent attacks — by Assad’s forces and their Russian allies — also point to the grey areas that raised questions about the ceasefire even before it began. Under it, military strikes are still permitted against some groups, including ISIL and an al- Qaida- linked Jabhat al- Nusra that has battled Assad’s troops.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that 118 people, including 24 civilians, have been killed in areas covered by the ceasefire during the first five days.
