An Evening with Canada’s stars brings talent to L. A.
Oscar buzz was at a feverish pitch this year and it’ s no wonder there was a recordbreaking crowd of industry insiders at the third annual An Evening with Canada’s Stars, presented by CTV’s etalk. The Four Seasons Los Angeles at Beverly Hills set the stage for this golden ticket co- hosted by Telefilm Canada, the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television and the Consulate General of Canada in Los Angeles. The celebration got underway just a few days before the Oscars to toast Canadian excellence in the entertainment industry. Invitees included Canadian Academy
Awards nominees, select Canadian Screen Awards nominees and other highprofile Canadian talent such as Adam Beach, Lyriq Bent and Emmanuelle Chriqui who joined event host and ETALK anchor Ben
Mulroney to pay tribute to this year’s nominees. It was amazing to see over eight decades of talent in the room — from Room’s sweetheart,
Jacob Tremblay to direc
tor Norman Jewison. Eu
gene Levy and Catherine O’Hara added extra excitement to the party too — the funny seems to follow them everywhere they go. They received the Academy Legacy Award from the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television, for their unflagging dedication in bringing international acclaim to Canadian talent in film, television and digital media.
“2016 is off to a roaring start with talent from Canada powering 20 Oscar nominations and a Technical Achievement Award,” said Carolle Brabant, executive director of Telefilm Canada. “And for the first time ever two Canadian co-productions — Room, produced by No Trace Camping, and Brooklyn, produced by Item 7 — are in the running for Best Picture.” During his presentation, Martin Katz, chair of the ACCT, said of the Canadian Screen Awards: “We have the most diverse slate of nominees on planet Earth,” in reference to #OscarsSoWhite. Canadians are taking over Hollywood, one great movie at a time!
