A majority PM is, effectively, an elected dictator, and unlike U.S. states, Canadian provinces have much less power to stop him. In 2011, this fact prompted U.S. conservative commentators to write prime minister Stephen Harper was “the most powerful conservative leader in the Americas.” Now, U.S. progressives are envious of Trudeau’s capability to implement a climate change agenda they can only dream of.
