Ontario’s Ambert Alert totally ruined my Sunday evening. TV programming was interrupted by blaring sirens, and I was unable to follow my show — Downton Abbey — because of the sound frequently being cut. Why blast my ears off in Oshawa, over something that was happening in Orillia? Anyone who thinks that will achieve anything constructive has few screws loose.

The next time it happens, let’s have a few of us charge the police service involved with assault, because that’s exactly what it is. Instead, a vivid warning should be placed at the bottom of the screen, advising us to go to an “alert” channel that will provide details. This vicious, uncalled- for assault on citizens in their own homes is unacceptable and must not be tolerated.
