‘Not a pumpkin in sight’
Constantine bash and Juno gala sound great, look even better better
Fashion’s most fabulous scenesters came out of hibernation and partied like royals to celebrate the 10th anniversary for beloved label Greta Constantine. Following acclaimed showings in Paris and Toronto for the fall 2016 collection, designer party staples Kirk Pickersgill and Stephen Wong were the kings of Casa Loma, where the party to end all parties took place. Princes and too many princesses to mention were dressed to impress. “Some clothes wear you, but Greta Constantine’s pieces are the opposite,” enthused fashion muse Krystal Koo. “Their clothes embrace you.”
Upon arrival, the well- heeled crowd walked the red carpet into a reproduction of Greta’s downtown Toronto studio complete with patterns, bolts of fabric, a number of forms and a sewing machine. The party, produced by “it girls” Candice & Alison, was one big extravaganza as ebony mannequins, inspired by fashion illustrations and
dotted around the conservatory’s fountain, were draped, tucked, pleated and sculpted in the duo’s iconic hand- dyed silk tulle garments. A trio of forms, adorned in the first muslins of the collection, stood high above dancing guests, while models paraded in final samples of the very same garments throughout the library.
Off to the conservatory it was, as the night neared its end, and guests gathered in a big circle where Voguers led a dance off. Supermodel Coco Rocha led the charge with Pickersgill, Wong and their entourage in tow! The partying lasted well past midnight, with not a pumpkin in sight. The best and brightest from the Canadian music scene descended on Calgary for the 45th annual Juno Awards weekend, which included the Juno Gala Dinner & Awards presented by SOCAN. Whether you’re a fan of rising stars, rappers or legendary rockers ( like Burton Cummings, who was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame) there was something for everyone. The 2016 Juno Awards was hosted by Jann Arden and Jon Montgomery from the Scotiabank Saddledome. In all, 41 awards were handed out over two days with the top nods presented during Sunday night’s broadcast, with 1.4 million viewers tuning in on CTV.
The festivities kicked off with a star- studded red carpet. The arrival of Avril Lavigne and Nickelback singer Chad Kroeger was leading the buzz. Toronto- born The Weeknd ( Abel Tesfaye) dominated the ceremony, taking home five awards. He gave an electric performance of “Acquainted” and “Might Not,” featuring a guest appearance by Juno Award-winning rapper Belly. It was definitely The Weeknd’s weekend, to say the least. The parties continued well into the wee hours of the morning and a little birdie tells me some revelers barely made their flights home!
