Banks should say ‘no’

-

Re: Get Your Own House In Order, editorial, May 27. Most of us should not be buying a house in Vancouver, or in Toronto, for the simple reason we cannot afford to buy them in these locations.

The farther you get away from these two cities, the more affordable the homes become, though the buyer has to adopt a longer commute into the city.

In regard to your final statement about learning to say “no” to ourselves at the bank: I can remember a time when the banks would say “no” to prospective borrowers, and we should hope to see that time again. In many cases, they would be doing their clients a big favour in saving them from future financial distress. Fred Perry, Surrey, B. C.
