Human rights record
Re: Canada Lucky To Have Harper, Michael Den Tandt, May 27. In his column denoting Stephen Harper’s accomplishments, Michael Den Tandt did not cover Harper’s principled s t and on human rights. For over 30 years, starting with Pierre Trudeau, Canadian Armenians have been advocating for government recognition of the Armenian genocide, to no avail. Then in April 2006, the Harper government formally recognized the Armenian genocide and Canada joined the ranks of 20 other nations that would not sacrifice human rights on the altar of political expediency. I wish him the best in his future objectives. Art Hagopian, Aurora, Ont.
