Grey’s Anatomy’s Dr. Callie Torres is hanging up her white coat. The season finale marked actor Sara Ramirez’s departure after ten years. The Broadway starturned-LGBT icon left the long-running medical drama at the conclusion of the series’ 12th season. The most shocking part of it all is that the character was allowed to depart the show alive and well, unlike Callie’s ex- husband George O’Malley, who shockingly died in season five, and longtime leading man Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd, who was killed off last May. Callie debuted near the end of the show’s second season, and quickly joined the main cast at the start of the next year due to fan appreciation, eventually becoming one of primetime television’s only regular lesbian characters.
