METAL DETECTORS UNCOVER HAUL OF VIKING-ERA GOLD
Denmark’s main museum says amateur archeologists have found seven bracelets, one of silver, six of gold, considered the largest Viking- era gold find in Denmark. A National Museum of Denmark spokesman Peter Pentz said the find “is something special.” The bracelets, which together weigh almost one kilogram, were discovered last week near Vejen in western Denmark by people using metal detectors. Pentz said the bracelets could have been used by a Viking chieftain to reward faithful followers.
