COUNTESS OF WESSEX TO VISIT FIRE-RAVAGED FORT McMURRAY
Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, is to visit the fire-damaged city of Fort McMurray in northern Alberta on Friday. The countess, wife of the Queen’s youngest son, Prince Edward, will be accompanied by Gov. Gen. David Johnston. The announcement from Ottawa Wednesday came as Edward and Sophie were visiting Manitoba and Saskatchewan. During the visit, the Governor General is to present a com- mendation for outstanding service to first responders, residents and volunteers involved in emergency relief efforts. “They all have shown tremendous courage and resilience throughout this devastating disaster,” Johnson said. “Our visit to Fort McMurray will allow us to show our ongoing support and to recognize so many great Canadians for their outstanding work.”
