COUNTESS OF WESSEX TO VISIT FIRE-RAVAGED FORT McMURRAY

Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, is to visit the fire-damaged city of Fort McMurray in northern Alberta on Friday. The countess, wife of the Queen’s youngest son, Prince Edward, will be accompanie­d by Gov. Gen. David Johnston. The announceme­nt from Ottawa Wednesday came as Edward and Sophie were visiting Manitoba and Saskatchew­an. During the visit, the Governor General is to present a com- mendation for outstandin­g service to first responders, residents and volunteers involved in emergency relief efforts. “They all have shown tremendous courage and resilience throughout this devastatin­g disaster,” Johnson said. “Our visit to Fort McMurray will allow us to show our ongoing support and to recognize so many great Canadians for their outstandin­g work.”
