DEATH TOLL IN LIBYA TOPS 60 IN ONE DAY

TRIPOLI, LIBYA Fierce clashes in Libya between pro-government militiamen and Islamic State fighters in Sirte, and an explosion at a depot near the capital, Tripoli, killed more than 60 people in one day, according to reports Wednesday.

In Sirte, Islamic State’s last bastion in Libya, Tuesday’s clashes killed 36 militiamen aligned with the government newly brokered by the UN. The militias, mainly from Misrata, have led an offensive since early May to take full control over Sirte. Near Tripoli, an explosion at a depot followed clashes with militias and killed 29 civilians.
