ON THIS DAY
October 14, 1912 Thomas Wilby and Jack Haney arrived in Vancouver after completing the first cross- Canada trip by car. At the time, Canada had less than 20 km of paved road. After 52 days on the road, Wilby uncapped a bottle of Atlantic Ocean water carried from Halifax and poured it into the Pacific. Wilby, a British travel writer, later published a book on the journey entitled A Motor Tour Through Canada. To learn more, visit the Historica Canada website at www.historicacanada.ca
