What you need to stay warm now that you’ve been outed.
Here’s how to stay warm and look cool this winter
Now that the mercury has started to drop, it’s time to take stock of your outerwear game. To help break down the trends, Cynthia Florek, fashion director and style expert, shares her tips on what to look for before you invest in this wardrobe essential. “With so many options, you don’t have to sacrifice style for warmth,” she says. “The key is to choose a style that you can incorporate into your existing wardrobe and remember, it’s your entrance maker.” But, she adds, look for classic pieces that are versatile enough to wear at and after work. Florek offers three choices for the fashion-forward man this season: the crombie coat, the duffle/pea coat and the luxe parka. THECROMBIECOAT A modern and lean silhouette in solid or textured wool, it offers versatility and is perfect for pairing with a suit or casual look, Florek says. Look for solid colours or, for the more daring, textured patterns such as plaids and checks. She recommends looking for details such as belting and/or smaller lapels and single- or double-breasted closures, depending on your personal preference.
THEDUFFLE/PEACOAT “This true classic has emerged as consumers look to 'luxe up’ their essentials,” Florek says. Camel is the key shade, but you can never go wrong with black or navy. A slightly oversized silhouette and shearling on collars offers updated styling. THE
LUXEPARKAThe quintessential parka is synonymous with Canadian winters, but the luxe factor speaks loudest when it comes to styling, Florek says. Look for unexpected fabrics such as wool, and sport or military details to dress up your parka this season.
